MARS BAR: THE LAST BASTION OF THE BOWERY
This bit of graffiti/art is painted outside the Mars Bar. It's a little dive on the corner of 2nd Ave and 1st st in Manhattan's Lower East Side. It is one of the last remaining vestiges of New York's punk glory days. It is the last of an endangered species.
"After Mars Bar then what?" Then I guess we switch off the lights and close the door behind us. We go out into a city that is little less "ours". We find refuge in memories and passable dive bars and record stores. It will never be the same, but let's not forget that it can still be good. This city won't lose all of its soul. Not without a fight.
Let's hope Mars Bar never closes.
